Family of 10 Rushed to Hospital After Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Inside Lauderdale Lakes Apartment

A family of 10 was rushed to the hospital after being exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning inside their Lauderdale Lakes apartment Thursday morning.

Fire Rescue crews arrived at the home near NW 34th Avenue just south of 28th Street, where they found three adults and seven children inside complaining of headaches and nausea.

The family was taken in serious condition to Plantation General Hospital.

BSO Fire Rescue and State Fire Marshal investigators said the family was cooking indoors atop a makeshift stove, which led to carbon monoxide released from the charcoal. The family was not using the stove to keep warm, Battalion Chief Michael Kane said.

Crews safely ventilated the apartment and checked other apartments in the area, but none showed signs of carbon monoxide.
