First responders carried out a training drill at the Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport on Friday.
The scenario was about what would occur when two planes collided. The only thing that was not real was the incident, as real people and equipment were used.
"The worst thing we can have happen here is if a responder gets injured because that takes one rescuer out of the equation," an official said.
The training included more than a dozen agencies.
Communication is one of the most important aspects of exercise. The drill was carried out in the dark to create even more difficult conditions to more properly prepare the first responders.
