Sunshine State Schools Selected for 2019 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

The Sunshine State will again be represented in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament this season as a total of three teams were selected Sunday to be a part of the 68 team field.

The Florida State Seminoles, who finished the regular season with the most wins in program history before advancing to the ACC Tournament Finals, will head back to the tournament for a third straight season and the 18th time in program history.

Head coach Leonard Hamilton’s team, who made it to the Elite Eight in 2018, will be the fourth seed in the West Region as they face No. 13 Vermont on Thursday in Hartford, Connecticut.

For the fifth time in program history, the UCF Knights will be in the madness of March as head coach Johnny Dawkins’ team was awarded the No. 9 seed in the East Region – where they will face No. 8 seed Virginia Commonwealth on Friday in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Florida Gators, a team who was on the bubble for much of the season, made it into the field as the 10th seed in the West Region, where they will face No. 7 Nevada on Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa. It will be the 22nd time that the Gators made the field, having won back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007.

Games in the 2019 NCAA Tournament begin on Tuesday, with the Final Four taking place on April 6th in Minneapolis, Minnesota with the national title game on April 8th.
