Good Samaritan Helping Drunk Driver, Struck and Killed on Highway

An off-duty paramedic giving first aid to an accident victim on the side of a busy Florida highway was struck and killed by a passing motorist.

Florida Highway Patrol officials say a driver hit the parked vehicle of a drunk driver who had randomly stopped his car on Interstate 75 early Sunday morning. Authorities say Good Samaritan, 59-year-old Wesley Weysham, helped pull the alleged drunk driver, 32-year-old George Evans, from his car and began giving him medical treatment.

Another car then crashed into Evans' truck, causing it to hit Weysham and burst into flames. Weysham died at the scene. The Tampa Bay Times reports he was a Navy veteran of the Gulf War.

Evans and two others suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.

FHP says charged are pending.
