During a visit to Broward County on Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis praised a system used at one local hospital aimed at helping patients know what they will have to pay for procedures before they take place.

DeSantis spoke at an event at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood to promote a website used that allows patients to choose what body part needs treatment and see what it will cost them with or without insurance.

"The number one issue people come back to is just how costly medical is,” DeSantis said. "This is one tool that we're looking for to create a downward pressure on the cost of all this stuff."

"This allows a mechanism…making those decisions that you as a consumer and a patient will benefit,” the Governor added.

DeSantis said he has a number of insurance providers willing to take part in the program and is supporting legislation that would expand the statewide portal to do a similar task as Memorial Hospital’s system has enacted.
