A woman initially thought to have been killed by a hit-and-run driver in Fort Lauderdale over the weekend was actually fatally shot, police said.
The body of the victim, 47-year-old Sheila Strope, was found around 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the roadway in the 900 block of Northwest 10th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale Police officials said.
Detectives initially believed that Strope had been struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident, but said on Monday that she died from a gunshot wound and no vehicles were involved.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area to call them at 954-828-6093.
