How Do You Catch A Burmese Python? A Hunter Shows Us How
NBC 6 followed along with Mike Kimmel, a python hunter who works under contract with the South Florida Water Management District's Python Elimination program to get rid of the snakes that have become destructive pests in the Everglades. Since the program's inception in 2017, over 2,600 pythons have been eliminated from the park. Kimmel said he has seen a rebound of native wildlife in the last year, and the snakes he catches now tend to be smaller in size.
Sunrise Woman Killed Three Weeks After Telling Police Husband Attacked Her, Detectives Say
According to detectives, a woman in Sunrise was killed by her abusive husband three weeks after she called the police to report that he'd attacked her. Florida law allows police to arrest a domestic violence suspect whenever injuries are evident, but Sunrise police chose not to make an arrest. When the woman's mother realized her daughter was likely in peril, she directed police to go after Joseph Traeger, who confessed after weeks of interrogations. Traeger is currently in jail without bond. He previously served 10 years in New Mexico for the rape and attempted murder of another previous wife.

Teen Arrested After Brutal Body Slam at Coconut Creek High School
A teenager was arrested after he body slammed another student during a violent fight in the hallways of Coconut Creek High School. Both the kids' mothers did not know why the fight took place, but one told NBC 6 that the two had gotten into a couple more fights earlier that same day. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for non-threatening injuries, and the defendant is being detained in Broward's Juvenile Detention Center on charge of aggravated battery.
El Carajo Cashier Accused of Taking Thousands of Dollars from Restaurant
A cashier at El Carajo voided transactions and stole the cash from the register for over a year, amassing to a total of $33,000 taken from the restaurant. He is being charged with grand theft and organized fraud. Police said surveillance footage showed the cashier, Oscar Orta, voiding transactions with no customers in sight and taking cash from the register in a folded paper towel. He allegedly surrendered himself and offered to pay the money back.
'Miracle' Dog that Survived Hurricane Dorian Will Meet New Adoptive Family
Miracle, the dog that was discovered by Big Dog Ranch Rescue after having spent three weeks trapped under rubble from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, is well on his way to recovery and will be adopted by his new family next week in West Palm Beach. Miracle's rescuers received over 10,000 adoption requests for the dog once his story went viral from families all over the world, from London to Australia. He is still recuperating from muscular atrophy, a shrunken stomach and a respiratory infection.
