Man Beaten With Steel Pipe, Pepper Sprayed During Armed Robbery in Little Havana

Two people armed with a steel pipe and pepper spray went on a savage attack in Miami's Little Havana, police said.

Thursday, police released surveillance video of the vicious beating, which happened outside a convenience store along Southwest 6th Street.

The victim was casually walking down the street Sunday when he was accosted and then brutally attacked, police said. The victim fell to the ground before he was kicked, punched, doused with pepper spray and bashed with a steel pipe.

"This is extremely important that we identify these offenders. When people think of armed robberies, they normally think of guns. However, as you can see in this video, both offenders were armed with weapons and they are dangerous," said Bess.

Footage showed the duo beating the man at least 15 times within 29 seconds before the victim is dragged around the corner. The man tried to fight back, but was unable to. As he lay on the ground, the two suspects reached into his pockets and stole $150, officers said.

"Obviously, he was in fear for his life. He went to a local convenience store where he called police," said Officer Christopher Bess, Miami Police Department.

Detectives described one of the suspects as clean shaven with long brown hair. They are unsure if the suspect is a man or transgender. The second suspect was clean shaven and bald.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
