Man, 77, Dies in Shooting, Attempted Robbery in Miami

Police are searching for three gunmen who shot and killed a man during an attempted robbery in Miami Saturday evening.

Miami Police said the victim was sitting inside the open trunk of his vehicle on the 3300 block of NW 13th Avenue just before 7 p.m. That's when police said three men ambushed the man and shot him.

Roberto Aracena witnessed the robbery attempt.

"The guy was laying down and minding his own business, and the guys came and shot him," Aracena said.

The suspects then fled, leaving the victim lying on the ground.

Paramedics rushed the man to surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he died a short time later.

The victim was later identified as 77-year-old Willy Warren. Neighbors said the man had lived in the neighborhood for many years.

"He's a sweet older man who always says hello," said neighbor Elizabeth Murray. "Very nice, very neighborly."

Police believe the suspects targeted the man for his bracelet and necklace.

"He wears chains and rings and everything like that, but I mean, who doesn't?" Murray said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
