One man has died and an officer was injured in a police-involved shooting in Miami Gardens early Sunday morning.
The shooting happened in the area of NW 192nd Street and 3rd Avenue. Miami Gardens Police responded to a 911 call around 5 a.m. regarding a violent, mentally-disturbed male.
Police said the man, identified as 25-year-old Lavall Hall, failed to comply with verbal instructions from the officers. Hall then engaged the officers in a physical altercation using an unidentified object, police said.
Officers shot Hall, who died on the scene.
Daniels said she had called police for help, asking officers to Baker Act her son.
"I called the police this morning to please help me with my child, he has a mental problem," Daniels said. "They killed my child, took my child away from me."
One of the officers was taken to Memorial Hospital in Hollywood with unspecified injuries.
Miami Gardens Police released a statement, saying in part, "We offer our condolences to the family of Lavall Hall. The loss of any life is tragic and understandably difficult. We are investigating the incident and will provide an additional statement as more facts become available. This investigation will be transparent and thorough. Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved."
