Marlins Blow Five-Run Lead, Tie Nationals

The Marlins led by five runs at one point in Friday's 5-5 tie with the Nationals

The Miami Marlins saw a five-run lead vanish in their 5-5 tie with the Washington Nationals on Friday.

The Marlins were trying to win back-to-back games for the first time this spring, but were unable to close the deal. Miami has several ties in the Grapefruit League and a 5-10 record otherwise.

Scott Copeland started the game for the Marlins and went three solid innings. Copeland only allowed a single hit, walked one, struck out one and surrendered no runs. While Copeland is likely headed to the minor leagues, he could have an opportunity to join the big league team during the season.

Brian Ellington's disappointing spring continued with his outing in the win. Ellington owns a 4.91 E.R.A after allowing a run in 1.1 innings. The reliever also walked a pair, and Ellington may be running out of chances to make the roster for Opening Day.

Hunter Cervenka allowed four runs in 1.2 innings and all four came during Washington's seventh inning rally. Cervenka was seen as a bullpen option before the spring began, but that may be the case any longer. The lefty has a 5.40 E.R.A and walked a pair in this one.

The big hit for Miami of the game came off the bat of Marcell Ozuna, with his third home run of the spring. Miami's outfielder now has 7 runs batted in after the three-run homer and is batting a robust .303 on the spring.

Justin Bour went 2-3 with a double and that was his first two-base hit of the spring. Miami's first baseman is now hitting .243 this spring.

Miami will visit the Detroit Tigers on Saturday at 1:05 p.m.
