Marlins Halt Skid With Shutout Victory

The Marlins put an end to their five-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 6-0 win

The Miami Marlins ended a five-game losing streak with a 6-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

The Marlins entered the game having lost ten of their last 11 games overall. The tough stretch moved Miami to six games back in the Wild Card standings. It will likely take an extended winning streak for the Marlins to get back into the playoff discussion.

Andrew Cashner had easily the best start of his Marlins career in this one. The right-hander went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs on four hits while striking out nine. Cashner is now 5-11 on the season to go along with a 4.77 E.R.A.

A day after hitting his first career pinch-hit home run, Ichiro Suzuki tripled in the win. Suzuki now has four triples this year and the three-base hit was part of a two-hit day. The veteran also scored a run to help Miami pick up the much-needed win.

In his first game back in the lineup, Marcell Ozuna doubled for the 23rd time this year. Ozuna also singled and scored a pair of runs. Justin Bour also started for Miami and reached base one time.

Along with Ozuna's double, the Marlins had two more two-base hits. Christian Yelich (35) and Martin Prado (32) added those doubles with Prado knocking in three runs as well.

The Marlins will take Thursday off and begin a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. Pitching for Miami in the first game of the series will be Jose Fernandez.
