Marlins Open Final Homestand With Win

The Marlins began their final homestand of 2016 with a victory over the Phillies on Monday

The Miami Marlins won a second straight game with their 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday.

The game against Washington was the first of Miami's final homestand of the season. With their Wild-Card hopes diminished, the Marlins will need to win nearly every game remaining to have a chance. Beating the division-leading Nationals was a good first step for Miami.

Giancarlo Stanton returned to the lineup and made his presence known. After sitting out a couple of games, Stanton hit his 26th home run of the season. The outfielder would have two more at-bats before exiting for the day. Stanton reached via a walk and could be in the lineup again on Tuesday.

Miami used extra-base hits to beat Washington in addition to Stanton's homer. Christian Yelich (37), Martin Prado (35) and Derek Dietrich (20) all doubled, while Marcell Ozuna tripled for the sixth time this season.

Wei-Yin Chen went 4.1 innings in his return from the disabled list. Chen allowed three runs with all of those coming on one swing. Chen gave up a three-run home run in the fifth inning and allowed four hits overall. Chen is likely going to remain on a pitch limit in his next start as well.

A.J. Ramos finished off the game in the ninth for his 38th save of the season. After allowing a lead-off double, Ramos retired the next three hitters in order to complete the win.

The Marlins will turn to Jose Fernandez for the start in Tuesday's game.
