Rubio Cancels “Meet the Press” With Meek

Rubio campaign says candidate is tending to his ailing dad

Looks like if Kendrick Meek is going to have a debate this weekend, it will be with himself.

Meek was supposed to face-off against Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio on NBC News’s "Meet The Press" ‘2010 Senate Debate Series,’ but the Rubio campaign said the meeting has been postponed because of Rubio's sick dad.

Gov. Charlie Crist, the other member of the three-headed monster, had already backed out of the debate because of his previously scheduled Labor Day plans.

It would have been the first debate between candidates before the Novermber election.

“I'm not running to be the opposition, I don't want to go up there and be against things,” said Rubio of the face-off. “I want to go up there and offer things that we should be doing.”

Meek said he was eager to debate his opponent. “People want to hear the views of the candidates and we all bring our cards to the table,” said the Congressman from Miami.

Charlie Crist's cards won't be on the table. The independent candidate said he'll be with Florida's working families talking about jobs and the economy, not sitting in a studio in Washington.

The first post primary election poll is out, with the Rasmussen Reports survey showing Rubio leading with 40%, Crist in second place with 30% and Meek running third taking 21%.

With Meek and Rubio, voters have a clear difference. In Meek, they get a self-proclaimed true Democrat: pro-choice and a strong supporter of President Obama's reforms. Rubio stands for the exact opposite.
