Miami-Dade Man Arrested in Murders of Mother, Grandmother: Police

Marc Mamert, 48, was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder

A South Florida man accused of brutally murdering his mother and grandmother at their Miami-Dade home has been arrested, police said.

Marc Mamert, 48, was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder Sunday, according to an arrest report.

The report said Mamert went to South Miami Hospital's emergency room Saturday evening and told staff he "did something bad." He also said he "thinks he killed his family and that his prescription medication caused him to do it," the report said.

Hospital staff called 911 and police went to Mamert's home in Kendall, where they discovered the bodies of the two women. One of them had been stabbed multiple times, and the other had blunt force trauma to the head, the report said.

Mamert was brought to the Miami-Dade Police Homicide Bureau where he refused to be interviewed, the report said. But the report said he "made numerous incriminating statements to hospital staff, police officers and detectives" and said he didn't mean to hurt his family but said he "killed his mother and grandmother because his medications make him act crazy and blackout."

The report didn't say what medication Mamert may have been on. The names of the mother and grandmother were also redacted in the report.

Mamert was booked into jail where he was being held without bond Monday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
