More Showers and Storms Expected in South Florida

After heavy rain and flooding affected parts of South Florida Wednesday, residents are being told to gear up for another round of showers and storms.

While the morning hours brought a lull in the weather, NBC 6 Meteorologist Ryan Phillips says that the afternoon will bring more storms which will develop around 2 p.m. and continue into the early evening hours.

Thursday's strongest threats are for lightning, with moderate threats of wind gusts and heavy rainfall.

On Wednesday, parts of Homestead were especially hard-hit by flooding. The area also saw numerous power outages which impacted traffic signals.

Florida City saw flooding, while parts of Deerfield Beach saw downed powerlines due to heavy winds.

Officials with the National Weather Service concluded that it was not a tornado in Deerfield Beach, but that heavy winds are to blame for the damage.
