The Zika outbreak continued to grip Miami-Dade County Wednesday as the Florida Department of Health announced one new locally transmitted case of Zika in the Wynwood neighborhood.
The new case comes one day after Florida Governor Rick Scott announced four new Zika cases in the county.
State officials believe active transmissions are only taking place within an area that is less than one-square mile in Wynwood.
Wednesday, crews from Miami-Dade County did aerial spraying for the fourth time in the last week, dropping larvicide over the Zika zone.
Meanwhile, NBC 6 has received calls and emails from people concerned about pools that are untouched and unkempt.
"It’s very rare that an abandoned pool will become a mosquito breeding site – 99% of the time they will not – and the 1% that may will NOT breed the type of mosquito that carries the Zika virus," Broward Mosquito Control officials said in a statement.
Officials also said mosquitoes that carry Zika typically like to breed in areas like tires, planters, pet bowls and buckets.
"Residents also don’t need to be concerned about lakes, canals, roadside ditches or retention ponds either," the statement said.
