Pembroke Pines Police are alerting residents of a scammer who's posing as a representative of the city and using recent reports on water quality to try to sell homeowners water cleaning systems.
The suspect has been knocking on doors in the Encantada and Boulevard Heights communities, claiming to be a city representative and offering to sell residents water cleaning systems, police said Tuesday. Police said the person is not associated with the city.
Pembroke Pines held a meeting last week to discuss the quality of the city's drinking water. City officials say the meeting was called to set the record straight and assure residents that the water is safe to drink, amid conflicting information from the Florida Department of Health and the city.
"Water quality inspections performed by or on behalf of the City do not involve any type of filter, or any type of sales pitch. When an inspector performs the water quality inspections they are at the request of the resident, and he/she does not enter the dwelling," police said in a Facebook post alerting residents of the scam.
Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the police non-emergency line at 954-764-HELP.
