Men Accused of Killing Liberty City Teens Appear in Court

UPDATE: The suspects have been released by police. More info here.

Two men accused of shooting and killing two South Florida teenagers faced a judge for the first time on Sunday.

Police said Yaairnes Bryant, 21 and Anthony Clinch, 19, pulled up in a car and shot at Rickey Dixon, 18, and Kimson Green, 17, and two other victims. All four were sitting on an alley way off of 13th Avenue and 63rd Street on April 8th. Witnesses told officers they heard more than 25 gunshots.

“Each one of the families have lost something that we can’t get back, but there is a difference. The parents can still go visit the children, but we can never go and visit our nephew again,” said Shirelda Thomas, the victim’s aunt.

Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene. Green was taken to the hospital, where he later died. Their deaths sparked walk outs at Miami Northwestern Senior High. The activism is encouraging for Thomas, who doesn’t want to see another student taken too soon.

“The violence has to stop. We’re losing our young people every day and I believe this needs to come to an end,” said Thomas.
