Search on for Suspect After Police-Involved Shooting Investigated in Fort Lauderdale

Authorities are searching for a suspect after a police-involved shooting in Fort Lauderdale Monday, officials said.

The shooting was reported in the 2300 block of West Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

According to police, the incident began when officers who were investigating a possible stolen car approached the vehicle in a McDonald's parking lot.

As the officers approached on foot, two of the passengers in the car fled on foot while the driver remained inside, officials said.

The driver jumped a curb and struck an officer, who received minor injuries, police said.

During the encounter, an officer saw a firearm and officers opened fire on the car as the suspect fled. It's unknown if the suspect was struck but police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Footage showed officers in the parking lot of the McDonald's with crime scene tape blocking off the restaurant.

"Our first priority is always the safety of our customers and employees," McDonald's owner/operator Brent Upchurch said in a statement. "As this is an active police investigation, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further except to say that we are cooperating fully with law enforcement at this time."

Police said one suspect has been caught but they're looking for two more. The car was also recovered and was confirmed to have been stolen, police said.
