Police Seek Public's Help in Murders of South Florida Teens

Police in South Florida are hoping the public can help provide clues in the shooting deaths of two teens in recent days.

Jose Velez, 16, was shot and killed in the area of Northeast Miami Place and 58th Street in Little Haiti on Wednesday. Last Friday, 16-year-old Kareem Thomas was shot and killed in the area of Northwest 81st Street and Northwest 14th Avenue.

Miami-Dade Police and the City of Miami Police Department are investigating the shootings and say they need the public's help.

"We need to get anybody that has any information on these type of cases. These are our kids, could be your kid, could be my kid. Only 16 years old," Miami Police spokesperson Argemis Colome said. "So we need anybody that has any information to please come forward."

In both cases, the shooters disappeared without a trace, leaving behind broken homes in the middle of the holidays.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
