Miami-Dade Officer Killed in ATV Crash Remembered in Memorial Service

The Miami-Dade Police officer who was killed in an ATV crash last week was remembered for his service and dedication to the community in a memorial service Friday.

Officer Jermaine Brown died after the Dec. 12 ATV crash in the area of 211th Street and South Dixie Highway.

"There is no sense in trying to understand why a routine check on an ATV could have gone so terribly wrong," said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

Brown was also remembered for his service and dedication to at-risk youth and the homeless.

"He lives within us and his ideals and the impact he had in the community, we are able to pick up where he left off and fill that void," said Miami-Dade police director Juan Perez.

Brown, 46, was with the department for about 15 years and leaves behind a wife and three children. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

"Ultimately he sacrificed his life for this community and really represented our department," Perez said. "So today was a tribute. A celebration of life that brought some respect, honor and dignity to Officer Brown."
