Three gun bills that will be considered during Florida's legislative session next year are moving through committees.
The Senate's Criminal Justice committee passed a revision to the Stand Your Ground law on Tuesday. The revision, which is being proposed by Sen. Rob Bradley (R-Orange Park), will require prosecutors to prove that the defendant was not acting in self-defense in cases where that person is asking for immunity. The current statute requires the defendant to prove those claims before a judge in order to avoid trial.
The committee also passed a bill allowing licensed gun owners to openly carry their weapons in public. It was approved by the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee on Oct. 6.
