State of Florida Not Hosting NCAA Baseball Regional for 1st Time Since 2006

  • The 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament begins on Friday and will end on June 26th at the conclusion of the CWS in Omaha, Nebraska.

For the first time in nearly a decade and a half, college baseball fans in Florida will have to travel outside of the state to see the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Sunday night, the 16 locations that will host the first round of the tournament were announced – and no schools in the state of Florida were selected to host for the first time since the 2006 season.

That season, five schools from the Sunshine State made the tournament with just one team – the Miami Hurricanes – advancing to the College World Series.

This season, several Florida schools are waiting to find out if they will be selected as at-large teams on Monday – including Miami and rival Florida State, playing their final season under longtime head coach Mike Martin.

Florida A&M has secured their first berth since the 2015 season after winning the MEAC tournament last week.
