Student Arrested for Bringing Gun to Miramar School

A student was arrested after bringing an unloaded gun to Everglades High School in Miramar, police said.

Miramar Police spokesperson Tania Rues said the gun was found in the student's backpack at the school on Southwest 48th Court.

The student, a juvenile, was arrested, Rues said. School board officials said the incident happened Friday, when another student reported that a classmate had a gun.

"We would like to emphasize that there was no threat made to the school or any of our students or staff members," the school's principal said in a statement. "The student was immediately removed from campus by Miramar Police and we are grateful to the student who reported the incident as we encourage all of our students to be vigilant and proactive."
