Suspect in Car Burglaries, Home Break-In Arrested: Miami Police

Police say they've arrested a suspect who stole $100,000 worth of goods from a Coconut Grove home and broke into a dozen cars in a Brickell garage.

Michael Fernandez, 27, was arrested in both cases, Miami Police said Saturday. Fernandez was charged with 14 counts of burglary, aggravated battery, grand theft and 12 counts of criminal mischief.

His bond was set at  $36,000 and it was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

The car break-ins happened on Dec. 19 at the Metropolitan Building garage, located at 2475 Brickell Avenue, police said. The suspect broke into 12 different cars, stealing various items and causing extensive damage.

The home burglary happened Thursday at a house in the 3000 block of Shipping Avenue. Police said a couple was asleep upstairs when the thief was able to pry open the back door and slip inside.

Once inside the home, the suspect stole $100,000 worth of electronic and jewelry, police said. A surveillance camera inside the home captured the suspect rummaging around before finding the camera and moving it out of place.
