Suspicious Canisters Found Inside Car in Kendall

What to Know

  • A bomb squad was called after a traffic stop revealed suspicious canisters.
  • Officials have not yet revealed what was within those canisters found in Kendall.

Local and federal law enforcement officers blocked off a shopping center parking lot in Kendall on Thursday after numerous suspicious metal canisters were found within a vehicle.

Officials said that the Miami-Dade Police Department made a traffic stop at about 5 a.m. at SW 88th Street and 137th Avenue that was initially being handled as a narcotics investigation.

However, officers found metal canisters within the silver Acura and immediately retreated to call in MDPD's bomb squad.

Due canisters' contents, which officials have not yet revealed, the investigation was handed over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF.

One man has been arrested but his charges have not yet been revealed.

The initial traffic stop occurred because of a broken headlight and taillight and because officers smelled marijuana, according to police.
