A nine-year-old boy becomes first fatality in Miami-Dade

A nine-year-old boy has become the first fatality due to swine flu in Miami, according to the Miami-Dade Health Department.

Officials said the boy suffered from asthma and was brought to a Kendall hospital on June 8th with flu-like symptoms.

The died the next day, June 9, but it took health officilas a week to test tissue samples, which confirmed he had swine flu.

State health officials say Florida currently has 417 confirmed cases of the swine flu virus, including 143 in Miami-Dade County.
