A Tampa man was killed in the Taliban’s deadly siege of a Kabul hotel over the weekend, an attack that wounded multiple people and left at least 22 dead, according to the U.S. State Department.
Glenn Selig was visiting Kabul on a business trip, according to his company Selig Multimedia. Selig was staying at the Intercontinel Hotel in Kabul on behalf of his business.
“Glenn was a tireless professional, loyal friend and pillar of the community, but most importantly he was a loving husband and wonderful father,” a statement from the company read. “The loss for his family and friends cannot be measured nor conveyed strongly enough, but we thank everyone for the outpouring of support we have received.”
In total, four Americans died in the attack and two others were injured. According to Afghan officials, the death toll included 14 foreigners. Eleven of the 14 foreigners had been previously identified as working for the private Afghan airline KamAir.
The 13-hour siege at Kabul's Intercontinental Hotel ended Sunday with Afghan security forces saying they had killed the last of six Taliban militants who stormed the hotel in suicide vests late the previous night, looking for foreigners and Afghan officials to kill. More than 150 people were rescued or managed to escape including 41 foreigners. Some hid in bathtubs or under mattresses as the attackers roamed the hotel's hallways killing people.
