Teen in Trouble for Fake Kidnap Sham

Orlando girl may face charges for abduction hoax

An Orlando teen who was afraid she'd get in trouble with her parents for being out late instead found herself in a whole lot of trouble with the police after she faked her own kidnapping.

The 16-year-old girl set off a massive operation including nine police agencies and two helicopters when she called 911 to tell a dispatcher she'd been kidnapped.

According to police, the girl told the dispatcher that six armed men had abducted her and put her in a car which was heading northbound on Interstate 4.

When police caught up to the vehicle, the teen spilled the beans on the kidnap hoax.

"(It's) unexcusable behavior by a 16-year-old female, stating that she didn't want to get in trouble with her parents, so she called 911 and said that she was kidnapped," Orlando Police Department Lt. Robert Anzueto told WESH. "She's coming up with some cockamamy story that she was kidnapped, when we all know it's false."

The girl wasn't arrested at the scene, but she may face charges for making a false 911 call.

Authorities said they plan to file as many charges as possible.
