What to Know
- The Dolphins returned to the field Wednesday, but there was a hold your breath moment for quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
The Miami Dolphins returned to the field after their first day off of the fall for day six of training camp. The offense finally was able to match the defenses intensity so far this camp. But there was a hold your breath moment for quarterback Ryan Tannehill and his surgically repaired left knee.
Here are 3 things that stood out from Wednesday's practice:
1. Ryan Tannehill took off on a designed run, up the middle in the red zone. It is the first time in this camp we have seen a specific play call for Tannehill to run the ball on a quarterback sneak. While he looked fine with his surgically repaired left knee on the run, there was a hold your breath moment minutes later.
Tannehill dropped back to pass and Cam Wake got a massive rush off the defensive end position and hit Tannehill - in the process it appeared center Daniel Kilgore fell back on the Dolphins starting quarterback. Tannehill scraped himself up the mat and continued on with the practice, but in talking with head coach Adam Gase after practice, he said it left nothing to be concerned about.
2. Josh Sitton rested for a second straight practice after early individual drills. The Pro-Bowl left guard brought in to play next to left tackle Laremy Tunsil to protect Tannehill’s surgically repaired left knee, has been given a “veteran pass” as it seems. Gase said they are taking things lightly with the veteran guard, in keeping him fresh for the season.
3. Defensive back Tony Lippett was lost last season to a torn achilles, but in talking with linebacker Raekwon McMillan last week he divulged Lippett and Tannehill were part of a three man, 40-yard competition during the rehab process. Lippett won many times and Ladmits it helped keep those competitive juices flowing heading in to this training camp.

Lippett said he doesn’t think about the injury anymore but did discuss that he is back in a learning phase of the defense. Gase said that Lippett has been at a disadvantage so far in camp, matching up guys who are smaller and quicker. Lippett is part of a battle for a outside cornerback position in which Torry McTyer has earned starting snaps the past 3 days.
The Dolphins are back on the practice field Thursday at 8:30 AM in Davie, with camp open and free to the public.
