Tornado Touches Down Along Bird Road, Impacts Westchester Neighborhood

A tornado touched down in Southwest Miami-Dade Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.

The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado touched down along Bird Road and Southwest 97th Avenue at about 1:20 p.m.

Areas of the Miami neighborhood of Westchester felt firsthand the impacts of Tropical Storm Philippe on Saturday, including a shopping plaza of a Graziano's restaurant along Bird Road where a massive tree fell onto several parked cars.

Nearby residents say the force of the storm was very strong and surprising. Residents say the severe weather lasted for nearly three hours.

It's unclear what the strength of the tornado was.
