Family Pleads to Find Killer of Father and Son in Hit-and-Run Crash

Authorities searching for driver of Camaro who fled scene of fatal crash

What to Know

  • Officials confirmed two people died in the crash, but did not say if they were from different vehicles or if others were involved.

The family of Jose Cepeda, 57, and Cesar Cepeda, 34, are inconsolable following Friday's fatal hit-and-run crash on 836 East just off the north Turnpike exit.

"My sister-in-law, who is an amazing woman and a strong mother is going through a lot," said Josephine Sandelis-Cepeda, a relative.

Cesar Cepeda was behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado when he lost control and crashed into a guardrail. Cesar was stranded on the side of the highway and called his father at five in the morning.

"His father got out of bed, got in his car and drove to the scene to help him out," said a police officer.

While the father and son were on the side of the road, a Chevy Camaro also lost control in the same spot, slamming into both parked cars and the Cepedas - killing them.

"That could have been me, that could have been you out there. Please unite and help us," said Sandelis-Cepeda.

FHP said the driver responsible for killing the father and son then stole Cepeda's SUV and fled the scene.

"We were able to recover the vehicle down in Homestead. The vehicle was brought in for processing," said police.

As the search to lock up the driver responsible for the two deaths continues, the family is sharing a message of forgiveness.

"I forgive you. Just turn yourself in and bring our family peace during this time. Let justice be serviced," said Sandelis-Cepeda.
