As the day turned into evening, residents of Wilton Manors and others from throughout South Florida gathered to remember those lives lost or affected by the tragic Orlando mass shooting.

Prayers were said and tears were shed as hundreds gathered to support one another outside the city’s Pride Center.

Many of those in attendance still in disbelief over what took place just over 200 miles to the north.

“It’s just devastating.  It could be here at this building it could be anywhere.  It affects all of use in a deep, deep level it’s shocking…truly shocking,” one mourner said.

Throughout the day, reports of the shooter’s motives have varied. Omar Mateen’s alleged ties to ISIS, a group that has been very vocal against the LGBT community, has some in the South Florida gay community on edge while others insist they won’t hide who they are.

“People always hate what they fear so the more out we are the better we all are,” another in attendance said.

Counseling will be available for anyone who might want to talk to someone at the Pride Center, while security measures have been stepped up at the facility.
