Three teenagers are on the run after they robbed a woman in a Miami parking lot as she was leaving a gym last week.
The victim, identified as Liliana Hurtado, says she lives in fear when she goes about her daily activities ever since the July 18th incident.
Three teen boys, between 13 and 16-years old, targeted Hurtado as she walked in the parking lot outside YouFit gym on Northeast 79th Street. The three thieves were riding on bikes when they wheeled toward the woman and yanked her cellphone out of her hands.
"He just pushed me down with his bicycle, so that's when I realized that they want to steal my cell," explained Hurtado.
The incident was captured on surveillance video. The footage shows the teen who grabbed the phone drop it, and that’s when Hurtado tried to take it back. But, the second bike-rider runs over the victim, knocking her down to the ground.
Hurtado was left bruised and severely shaken up. She says she has returned to the gym only twice since the incident, because she’s fearful she’ll be targeted again.
Police call the incident a crime of opportunity.
“They saw the opportunity and they attempted to take advantage and this is why this is such a serious case to us," said Officer Christopher Bess, Miami Police Department.
The suspects were all riding BMX-style bikes. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
