Woman May Have Been Street Racing Before Fatal Crash in Deerfield Beach: BSO

Authorities are investigating whether a woman who died after her car hit a pole in Deerfield Beach was street racing at the time of the crash.

Carrie Ann Laird, of Jacksonville, was killed when she lost control of her 2005 Nissan 350Z and veered off the roadway on Southwest 10th Street west of Independence Drive around 2 a.m. Friday, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Laird, 37, was driving at a high rate of speed and a witness said she may have been racing another vehicle, officials said. There was no evidence that the other vehicle made contact with the Nissan.

Laird, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The BSO is asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
