A construction worker was killed while diving in a large ditch filled with water in Weston Tuesday, officials said.
The incident happened at a construction site at Indian Trace and Bonaventure Boulevard, the Broward Sheriff's Office said. BSO identified the worker at Ernesto Rodriguez, 45, of Hollywood.
Rodriguez was working for Ric-Man Construction in Pompano Beach. He was working on an underwater pipe and didn’t resurface. A coworker jumped in to try to rescue him, but couldn’t find him. On a third attempt, the co-worker found him and pulled him out of the water.
Rodriguez was taken to the Cleveland Clinic, but died a little after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
The BSO and OSHA are investigating the incident.
