A Rhode Island man who leapt into the bitterly cold water at a marina to rescue an elderly man is being hailed as a lifesaver.

Tate Tetreault says he heard a cry for help at the Warwick marina early Sunday morning and quickly jumped in to grab the man and pull him to safety.

"I heard the words, 'Help, help,'" Tetreault told WJAR-TV. "My adrenaline was very high. I just knew I needed to get him out of the water."

Tetreault said he used all his energy to pull the man out.

Some Leavenworth County, Kansas, officials are calling for Commissioner Louis Klemp's resignation after he insulted a black woman who had just presented a land-use study to the commission. "I don't want you to think I am picking on you because we are part of the master race. You have a gap in your teeth. We are part of the master race, don't you forget that," Klemp said.

"He couldn't stand. He couldn't. His legs he couldn't at that point he was so frozen," Tetreault said.

The man, who has not been identified, is known to neighbors as "Bob" and is said to be in his 70s.

Tetreault told WJAR-TV that he wasn't sure how Bob fell but was in the water for more than an hour.

"I'm lucky that I could assist him out of the water," said Tetreault. "Somebody needs help, you help them out."

The man was taken to Kent Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
