Teresa Scanlan, Miss Nebraska, became Miss America 2011 on Saturday Jan. 15, in Las Vegas, The Associated Press reported. She beat out 52 other contestants and became the recipient of a $50,000 scholarship.

Scanlan is awarded the tiara as Miss America 2011. According to the AP, the 17-year-old plans to attend Virginia's Patrick Henry College when she finishes her duties as Miss America. Her goal is to attend law school, said a pageant press release.
