Mexican Teen Shot by U.S. Border Patrol Agents 7 Times

U.S. Border Patrol agents shot and killed a Mexican teenager at least seven times from behind last year when he was among a group of rock throwers suspected of smuggling drugs, Mexican authorities announced. An autopsy report released Thursday showed that 16-year-old Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez was struck in the head, neck and body by at least seven bullets. The agents were responding to reports of suspected smugglers, who they watched drop drugs on the Arizona border. The smugglers fled back into Mexico and "began assaulting the agents with rocks," according to a written statement given by the Border Patrol. An agent opened fire after the suspects refused orders to stop. Mexican authorities condemned the Border patrol's use of lethal force and called for an investigation into the incident. The FBI has been leading the investigation into the shooting.
