Newsweek Boss Sidney Harman Dead at 92

Sidney Harman, the electronics entrepreneur who last year bought troubled Newsweek for $1 and then merged it with The Daily Beast, has died. Harman, who founded hi-fi and stereo equipment company Harman Kardon in the 1950s, was married to California Congresswoman Jan Harman. The longtime philanthropist joked that his rich friends said he was crazy when he bought the debt-ridden news magazine and assumed its liabilities, but he believed it could become a journalism force after merging it with the online Daily Beast. His family said he died of complications from acute myeloid leukemia.
