A truck that was carrying millions of honeybees to a farm in Washington state overturned on a highway Friday, causing a large cleanup and rescue operation, NBC News reported. Some of the bees were killed in the accident by fire crews who were using a fire retardant. Bee keepers worked hours to contain the rest. The truck had 458 hives, each having from 26,000 to 30,000 bees, the station reported. A Washington State Patrol spokesman told NBC affiliate King 5 that the 36-year-old driver may have been speeding.
