Drug Charges Dropped Against Heat Star

Police found marijuana underneath Udonis Haslem's driver's seat

With so much hate being aimed at the Miami Heat, at some point we had to get some good news. Looks like it came Thursday.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office is dropping all charges against Heat forward Udonis Haslem stemming from his August arrest.

Haslem, 30, had faced felony possession of marijuana charges after authorities found more than 20 grams of pot underneath the driver's seat of Haslem's car during a traffic stop.

He had a court date earlier this week, but the hearing was postponed until Friday. Now that hearing won't be needed, said Eric Schwartzreich, Haslem's attorney.

"Udonis is elated and relieved," he said. "It's been a very stressful situation but he always felt the truth would set him free."

It was fingerprints, or the lack thereof, that vindicated the Miami native. There was no evidence that connected Haslem to the pot found in the case under his seat.

Haslem's attorneys have said the drugs belonged to the man in the passenger seat, Antwain Fleming, and not the Heat star. Haslem said he had no clue drugs were in his car. Fleming also told officers that it was his weed.

Haslem has also been charged with speeding and illegal window tinting on the 2008 Mercedes he was driving east on the Gratigny Parkway when a state trooper clocked him going 78 in a 60 miles per hour zone just after 3 p.m. on Aug. 15.

The NBA has not commented on the arrest and it appears Haslem should avoid any punishment from Commissioner David Stern's office since all the charges have been dropped.

He might still have to pay that speeding ticket -- call it a technical foul shot -- but now the hometown hero can focus on all the hate on the court - the one with the NBA logo on it.
