Ozuna's Big Night Helps Marlins Win 3rd Straight

Marcell Ozuna went 4-4 and picked up the game-winning hit in Friday's win

Marcell Ozuna had three doubles including the game-winner in a 4-3 win for the Miami Marlins over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.

Ozuna went 4-4 in the game and lifted his average to .315 on the season. After a bit of a sluggish start to the year, Miami's cleanup hitter has been on a hot streak. Ozuna only has five runs batted in this year, but has seven doubles.

The victory for Miami was its third straight and the eighth in its last nine tries. The Marlins have battled back to a record of 11-12 after starting the year at 3-11. The hot stretch of games has moved Miami closer to first place in the National League East. The Marlins and Atlanta Braves are tied for second place and sit only 4.5 games back of the New York Mets.

Ozuna was not the only man to have a good game for Miami. Dee Gordon who leads all of Major League Baseball in hits added to that total with three more. Gordon is now hitting .423 on the year and was even intentionally walked during the win. It was only the third time in Gordon's career that he was given an intentional free pass.

Giancarlo Stanton went 1-4 with a double and also scored the game-winner. The final play which was reviewed and upheld involved Stanton evading a tag from Carlos Ruiz. A nifty slide by Stanton gave the Marlins a win and prevented a potential extra-innings scenario.

On the mound, Tom Koehler got the start and ended up with a no-decision. The right-hander struck out six and gave up three runs in five innings. The damage against Koehler all came in the fourth after he began the game with three perfect innings.

Miami will be in search of a fourth straight win when it sends Dan Haren to the mound on Saturday.
