Sparano: “Dolphins Fans Don't Deserve This”

Things we do deserve: nice hands, willingness to take a hit, yards after catch.

Among questions about Chad Henne (he's the starter, duh), Paul Soliai (has to "take the next step") and Jason Taylor (don't hold your breath), Tony Sparano was asked this morning about the rash of legal issues Dolphins players have acquired lately, including Ronnie Brown's recent DUI arrest.

"Miami Dolphins fans don't deserve this," Sparano said, clearly frustrated. "Obviously we're not happy about it. Absolutely I'm not happy. Anybody that brings negative light to the team disappoints me."

Imagine how he must feel when Ted Ginn runs out of bounds avoiding contact.

For Sparano, arrests become a huge distraction. For angry columnists, a rather surprising loss of innocence, something we thought had gone out the window by the time Kobe Bryant was charged with rape. For fans, well...drunk driving makes us sad, obviously, because it's stupid and dangerous and selfish and completely inexcusible.

But so does Sparano's claim that the receiving corps is satisfactory. The big guy went on to say that the front office is comfortable moving forward with the unit as it stands "because we know exactly what we're getting."

Comfortable?

Really?

ARGH! THROW US A BONE!

Obviously, Sparano isn't going to say much otherwise. He keeps his roster issues in-house, wouldn't shout, "We're drafting Dez Bryant!" even if the Dolphins planned to, and certainly isn't going to hurt anyone's trade value by slamming them from the NFL's annual meeting. But, you know, now that we're reeling under the knowledge that NFL players aren't angels, and our whole world is shattered, the least he could do is give us some hope with all that undeservedness.
