Marlins Hit Hard in Loss to Mets

The Marlins were blown out by the Mets by a final of 11-6 on Thursday in Port St. Lucie

The Miami Marlins fell to the New York Mets by a final score of 11-6 on Thursday in Port St. Lucie.

Adam Conley started the game for Miami and did well, but the relievers behind him did not fare as well. Conley gave the Marlins two scoreless innings, in which he allowed only a single baserunner. In his second full season, Conley could end up being an ace of sorts for the Marlins. The lefty has shown flashes of brilliance, but still struggles with his command at times.

Dan Straily came in out of the bullpen first, and struggled mightily. Straily is expected to open the year in Miami's starting rotation after coming over in a trade during the off-season. The veteran allowed four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. Straily did strike out three hitters, but also walked one.

Non-roster invitee Matt Tomshaw did not have a good day, with the rare opportunity he was given. Tomshaw allowed five runs in his lone inning of work, and is likely going to be one of Miami's first cuts this spring. The 28-year old should serve as organizational depth this season.

Most of Miami's regulars stayed back in Jupiter for this one, but a few guys did make the trip. Christian Yelich was one of those players that traveled for the game, and he continued his hot spring. Yelich went 2-2 with a walk, and is hitting a robust .545 this spring.

The Marlins will return home and face the Washington Nationals in Jupiter on Friday.
