Live Music this Week: May 6 – May 12

Thurs., May 9 – Alejandro Sanz at American Airlines Arena, 9 pm, $42 - $118

Multiple Latin Grammy winner Alejandro Sanz will be performing his legendary cataloge of hits at the AmericanAirlines Arena. With eight studio albums and six DVDs released, the Spanish star has easily crossed over into Latin superstardom. While usually sticking to his Spanish roots with flamenco inspired ballads, Sanz has also incorporated some rock and salsa into his music. The tour will be stopping in Miami this Thursday night, starting at 9 pm.

Fri. May 10 – ArtOfficial, The Mike Dillon Band at The Stage, 9 pm

Friday night at The Stage hosts two very different groups: ArtOfficial and The Mike Dillon Band. The Mike Dillon Band is comprised of four musicians who hail from New Orleans and perform their distinct sound, which features punk rock, jazz, and some Brazilian influences. Miami group ArtOfficial features a different take on hip hop, with jazz infused beats and honest lyricism taking center stage with their sound. The show begins at 9 pm down in the Design District.

Fri., May 10 – Lanzallamas at Jazid, 11 pm

Lanzallamas main objective during their shows is simple: to make everyone move. With cumbia and salsa rhythms, it's nearly impossible to not move around while listening to the group. This local group is known for their Afro-Latino rhythms and are well known from their performances at some of the biggest local music festivals in South Florida. Fresh off a European tour, the group will be performing at Jazid in Miami Beach this Friday night.

Sat., May 11 – Bird Bash 1.5 at Blackbird Ordinary, 4 pm

Blackbird Ordinary has quickly become a hot spot in Brickell, hosting some of the best of Miami's local music scene and having special guest DJs take a spot on the decks from time to time. This Saturday, they are celebrating their year and a half birthday with an all day festival. Live performances from Spam Allstars, Deaf Poets, and Eagle Chief will be taking place throughout the day, mixed in between DJ sets from Contra, Sharpsound, Yancy, Louie Arson, and Haitian Hillbilly.
