The body found in a West Park alleyway earlier this week has been identified as a 16-year-old boy, authorities said Thursday.

Francisco Santiago was found in the 3800 block of Hallandale Beach Boulevard by a man who was walking his dog, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The BSO didn't give a cause of death but said the death has been ruled a homicide. Santiago's body has been transported to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

At his home Thursday night, Santiago's sister and mother fought back tears as they spoke about the teen's death.

"He's not just an animal, like those guys left him, thrown there," sister Crystal Rosario said. "Nobody deserves whatever they did to my brother."

Rosario said the family was already dealing with another brother's death just two months ago.

Authorities are still investigating the death and are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with info is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
