Brush Fire Burns Near Tampa, Closes Part of I-75

Southbound lanes of I-75 reopen after brush fire

Fire officials in Hillsborough County say dry and windy conditions were high when a brush fire spread from five acres to nearly 50 acres, shutting down a major interstate in the area for hours.

A fire rescue statement says Saturday's fire spread very quickly and threatened nearby homes and properties in Ruskin. A mobile home, carnival trailer and some cars were damaged by the fire. No injuries have been reported.

Authorities say the fire is contained but not full under control. Rescue crews are hitting all the hot spots to prevent the fire from spreading.

Meanwhile, the northbound lanes of Interestate 75 remained closed as of 5 p.m. Saturday due to the fire. Southbound lanes opened earlier in the day.
