Theodore Antonio Shirley faces charges including kidnapping and carjacking with a firearm

A man was arrested for kidnapping a woman in October after authorities found him from the DNA he left in the victim's car, authorities said Thursday.

Theodore Antonio Shirley, 19, told detectives that he planned to rob and rape the 29-year-old woman after kidnapping her as she walked out of The Beauty Supply Store at 7250 W. McNab Road, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

He pulled a gun and pointed it at her face as she walked to her car, he forced her inside the Cadillac Brougham, authorities said. He pinned her against the driver's seat with his body and put the gun in her mouth to try to keep her quiet, the sheriff's office said.

He wrapped duct tape around her head, nose, mouth, arms and wrists to keep her from moving. He then forced her into the back seat, authorities said.

A witness had seen the kidnapping and called 91, and moments later authorities arrived and pulled up next to the the car, the sheriff's office. Shirley was driving and the deputy saw the victim duct-taped in the back seat. When the deputy tried to stop the car, Shirley jumped out and fled, authorities said. The victim was able to get in the front seat and stop the car before it crashed into a Taco Bell.

Shirley faces charges including kidnapping, carjacking with a firearm,  burglary with assault or battery and attempted rape, authorities said.

The gun had been reported stolen in 20120 from Lee County.

It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.
